Every Business Has Unique Pallet Needs
A food distributor needs pallets that pass FDA inspections. A manufacturer needs pallets that hold 4,000 pounds without failing. An exporter needs pallets that clear customs in 25 countries. An e-commerce fulfillment center needs pallets delivered on a predictable weekly schedule at a price that works.
The following case studies demonstrate how we work with each customer to understand their specific challenges and build pallet programs that deliver measurable results. Every challenge is different. Every solution is tailored. The common thread is a commitment to quality, reliability, and long-term partnership.
Central Valley Fresh Foods
Fresno, CA
The Challenge
Central Valley Fresh Foods distributes fresh produce from over 40 Central Valley farms to grocery chains across the western United States. They were experiencing recurring FDA audit findings related to pallet condition — mold contamination on pallets used in cold storage facilities, inconsistent pallet quality from their previous supplier, and inability to trace pallets back to their source. Two product recalls in a single year were linked to contamination originating from substandard pallets in their cold chain.
Our Solution
Fresno Pallets implemented a comprehensive food-grade pallet program for Central Valley Fresh Foods. We provided exclusively Grade A heat-treated pallets with documented chain of custody from kiln to delivery. Each shipment includes a treatment certificate and lot tracking number. We established a dedicated inventory of food-grade pallets stored in our climate-controlled facility, ensuring consistent quality and immediate availability during peak harvest seasons. We also implemented a pallet return and inspection program — used pallets are collected, inspected, and either recertified for food use or diverted to non-food applications.
Client Feedback
“The pallet return program alone paid for the upgrade to food-grade pallets within six months. We have not had a single contamination issue since switching to Fresno Pallets.”
Results
FDA audit findings related to pallets since program launch
Traceability — every pallet traceable to treatment batch
Annual savings from eliminated product contamination claims
Reduction in pallet replacement costs through return program
Maximum delivery time even during peak harvest season
Pacific Pharma Logistics
Clovis, CA
The Challenge
Pacific Pharma Logistics operates a 200,000 square-foot pharmaceutical distribution center that serves hospitals and pharmacies across four states. Their facility requires GMP-compliant operations, and their pallet supplier was consistently delivering pallets that failed incoming quality inspections — protruding nails that could puncture pharmaceutical packaging, dimensional inconsistencies that caused problems in their automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), and occasional mold that triggered corrective action reports.
Our Solution
We developed a custom pallet specification for Pacific Pharma that exceeded their GMP requirements. Every pallet undergoes a 12-point quality inspection before leaving our facility, including dimensional verification within plus or minus one-eighth inch tolerance, nail depth checks, moisture content testing, and visual contamination screening. Pallets are individually shrink-wrapped before delivery to prevent contamination during transit. We maintain a safety stock of 500 pallets at our facility dedicated to Pacific Pharma, ensuring they never experience supply disruption.
Client Feedback
“In pharmaceutical distribution, consistency is everything. Fresno Pallets delivers pallets that our automated systems handle without a single jam. That reliability is worth every penny.”
Results
Incoming inspection pass rate (up from 82%)
AS/RS jams caused by pallet dimensional issues
Annual savings from reduced corrective action reports
GMP audit non-conformances related to pallets
Emergency delivery guarantee for unplanned demand
San Joaquin Almond Cooperative
Madera, CA
The Challenge
The San Joaquin Almond Cooperative processes and exports over 50 million pounds of almonds annually, shipping to markets across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Their export shipments were experiencing recurring customs delays due to ISPM-15 compliance issues — faded or illegible treatment stamps on pallets, occasional use of untreated repair boards on certified pallets, and insufficient documentation for destination countries that require supplementary phytosanitary certificates. Each customs hold cost them an average of $8,000 in demurrage and delayed delivery fees.
Our Solution
Fresno Pallets became the exclusive pallet supplier for all export shipments. We implemented a three-tier quality control system: first, all export pallets are heat treated in our certified kiln with digital temperature logging; second, ISPM-15 stamps are applied using branded heat stamps (not ink) for permanence; third, every shipment includes a heat treatment certificate with batch number, treatment date, and temperature records. For markets requiring supplementary documentation (China, Australia, India), we prepare the necessary certificates and keep copies on file for three years.
Client Feedback
“We export to some of the strictest markets in the world. Since partnering with Fresno Pallets, we have not had a single compliance issue at any port. Their documentation system is exceptional.”
Results
Customs holds due to pallet compliance since implementation
Annual savings from eliminated demurrage and delay costs
Compliance rate across 25+ destination countries
Average time to produce any historical compliance document
Reduction in overall pallet cost through return and recertification program
WestPac Retail Supply
Visalia, CA
The Challenge
WestPac Retail Supply operates a regional distribution center that serves 85 retail stores across central and southern California. Their major challenge was pallet standardization — they were receiving pallets from dozens of suppliers in various conditions, which caused problems with their conveyor systems and automatic palletizers. Non-standard pallets jammed conveyor lines an average of 12 times per week, each jam requiring 15-45 minutes of downtime for clearance. Additionally, their retail customers were rejecting deliveries made on visually poor pallets.
Our Solution
We established a standardized pallet program using exclusively 48x40 Grade A stringer pallets with tight dimensional tolerances. All pallets are inspected for board condition, nail pattern, and overall dimensions before delivery. We also implemented a pallet exchange program — when we deliver fresh pallets, we pick up used pallets for inspection, repair, and recirculation. Pallets that pass inspection re-enter the pool; those that do not are recycled. This creates a closed-loop system that maintains quality while controlling costs.
Client Feedback
“The conveyor jams were costing us a fortune in downtime and overtime labor. Standardizing on Fresno Pallets Grade A program eliminated the problem almost overnight. The exchange program keeps our costs manageable.”
Results
Reduction in conveyor line jams (from 12 to less than 1 per week)
Delivery rejections by retail customers due to pallet condition
Annual savings from reduced downtime and improved throughput
Of pallets recirculated through exchange program (cost reduction)
Turnaround for standard orders of up to 500 pallets
Precision Metal Components Inc.
Fresno, CA
The Challenge
Precision Metal Components manufactures heavy steel and aluminum parts for the aerospace and defense industries. Their products weigh between 500 and 4,000 pounds per pallet, requiring heavy-duty pallets with exceptional load-bearing capacity. Standard softwood pallets failed regularly under these loads — cracked stringers, broken deck boards, and pallet collapse during forklift transport. Several workplace incidents were reported to Cal/OSHA, and the company was at risk of citations. Additionally, their military contracts required specific pallet specifications that their previous supplier could not consistently meet.
Our Solution
We designed and manufactured custom heavy-duty hardwood pallets using red oak stringers and maple deck boards. Each pallet is engineered for a 5,000-pound dynamic load capacity and 8,000-pound static capacity. Pallets are built with 10-gauge ring-shank nails for superior holding power and reinforced with steel corner brackets on pallets designated for military shipments. Every pallet is load-tested before delivery and comes with a certificate of conformance documenting the materials, construction method, and load rating.
Client Feedback
“When you are shipping 4,000-pound aerospace components, pallet failure is not an option. The custom hardwood pallets from Fresno Pallets have never failed. The cost per trip is actually lower than the cheap pallets we used to break every other use.”
Results
Pallet failures since switching to custom heavy-duty program
Cal/OSHA incidents related to pallet handling
Military specification compliance on all defense contracts
Increase in pallet lifespan compared to previous softwood pallets
Annual savings despite higher per-pallet cost (fewer replacements)
QuickShip Fulfillment Services
Fresno, CA
The Challenge
QuickShip operates a 150,000 square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center that processes 15,000 orders per day for multiple online retail brands. Their operation requires high-volume, cost-effective pallets for inbound inventory receiving (40-60 pallets per day) but also demands quality pallets for outbound LTL shipments to customers. Their previous approach — buying the cheapest pallets available — resulted in high damage rates, safety complaints from warehouse workers about splinters and protruding nails, and rejected LTL shipments from carriers who refused to handle substandard pallets.
Our Solution
We created a dual-tier pallet program tailored to QuickShip's needs. For inbound receiving and internal warehouse use, we supply Grade B recycled pallets at competitive pricing — structurally sound, inspected for safety, but cosmetically imperfect. For outbound LTL shipments, we supply Grade A pallets that meet carrier requirements and present well to end customers. Both tiers include safety inspection — every pallet is checked for protruding nails, splinters, and broken boards before delivery. Volume pricing and weekly scheduled deliveries keep costs predictable.
Client Feedback
“The dual-tier approach was brilliant. We get the quality we need for outbound shipments without paying premium prices for pallets that just sit in the warehouse. The weekly delivery schedule means we never have to think about pallet supply.”
Results
Reduction in pallet-related worker complaints (splinters, nails)
LTL carrier rejections since implementing Grade A outbound program
Cost reduction vs. using Grade A for all applications
Pallets delivered weekly on scheduled routes
On-time delivery rate for weekly scheduled orders
Golden Valley Vineyards
Madera, CA
The Challenge
Golden Valley Vineyards produces 200,000 cases of wine annually, shipping to distributors and retailers across the United States and to export markets in Canada, the UK, and Japan. Wine shipments are heavy (40-45 lbs per case, up to 2,000 lbs per pallet), fragile (glass bottles), and temperature-sensitive. Their pallets needed to withstand heavy column-stacked loads while also being clean enough for retail presentation. Export pallets required ISPM-15 compliance for international markets. Their previous supplier could not reliably meet all three requirements simultaneously.
Our Solution
Fresno Pallets developed a wine-industry-specific program that addresses all three requirements. Domestic pallets are Grade A hardwood block pallets rated for 3,000 lbs dynamic load — strong enough for heavy wine loads and compatible with the four-way entry that distribution centers require. Export pallets are heat-treated block pallets with permanent ISPM-15 branding. All pallets are clean, free of splinters (which can catch on wine case packaging), and stored in our covered facility to prevent moisture absorption. During crush season (August-November), we pre-stage inventory to handle the surge in demand.
Client Feedback
“Wine is heavy and fragile. Cheap pallets collapse and bottles break. Fresno Pallets understood our needs immediately and designed a program that handles the weight, looks professional at retail, and clears customs without issues.”
Results
Broken pallets during transit (previously 3-4 per month)
ISPM-15 compliance for all international shipments
Annual savings from eliminated product damage claims
During crush season — pre-staged inventory ensures supply
Customer satisfaction with pallet presentation at retail delivery
